On 11 November 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front.
On 11 November 2018, the world will fall silent to mark the Centenary of Armistice.
In commemoration of this event, and in memory of all those Australians who served, we have created a very special bear to embody the Spirit of Remembrance.
Inspired by the time-honoured heritage of traditional British and continental mohair teddy bears, the Spirit of Remembrance bear hearkens back one hundred years – to a time when so much was lost, and when our nation made a Promise to Remember.
Standing 52cm tall, he is depicted in a moment of solemn reflection. With bowed head and lowered eyes, he remembers mates and comrades who have not returned.
Medals of service are pinned on his khaki green service tunic. The Rising Sun badges on his slouch hat and collar show that he was part of the AIF, as do the brass buttons that read “Australian Military Forces”.
Since only 1,918 examples will ever be produced, the Spirit of Remembrance bear is a treasure unlike any other.
It’s a bear to Remember – it’s a Promise kept.
