The inspiration

Market Link Solutions Managing Director, Stephen Davie, met with Australia's last surviving Gallipoli Digger, Alec Campbell, just a few months before he passed away on May 16, 2002.
Meeting Alec Campbell was a great honour, an inspirational encounter with a very interesting and humble Australian; Alec recounted many memories as he slowly sipped on his malt whiskey.
Alec was very keen to keep the Australian Spirit alive in future generations of Australians, through them connecting to the memories of Australian's wartime history and service.
With this inspiration the concept to create a historic product range with sand from Gallipoli was conceived by Ian Paterson and Stephen Davie in Canberra a month after the meeting with Alec.
We wanted to honour our Diggers and commemorate the Australian Spirit forged in 1915 on the beaches of Gallipoli, where thousands of ordinary Australians gave extraordinary service for their country.

Collecting the Sand from Gallipoli

Our Turkish supplier collected 280kg of sand from Anzac Cove in 2002 after seeking local approvals from the Turkish authorities.
After collecting the sand, it was then dried in a warm room for 2-3 days. Once the sand was perfectly dry it was hand screened to gain a consistent grain size. The sand was then packed in shipping containers and dispatched to Australia.
When the sand arrived in Australia it was sent to the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) for gamma irradiation treatment. A permit to import the sand into Australia was authorized by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS)
